When was Build 42 released?
Build 42 launched on July 29, 2026, after more than five years of development. The game remains in Early Access — The Indie Stone confirmed Build 42 Support Update will continue through 2026.
Is Project Zomboid still worth playing in 2026?
Absolutely. Build 42 is the most substantial update since 2021 — map doubled, crafting system reworked from the ground up, new livestock and weapon systems, rebuilt multiplayer. If you played and left during Build 41, now is a great time to return.
Which occupation should beginners pick?
Fire Officer is the most beginner-friendly — high Fitness, axe swing speed bonus, and fire starting. Paramedic is also strong with high Medical. Avoid niche crafting occupations until you understand the game loop.
Do negative traits actually help?
Yes — negative traits give you build points to spend on more positives that matter. Good beginners start with Claustrophobic, Sleepy, or Smoker. The plan: enough negative points to fund 2-3 strong positive traits.
