B-F Pistol in Build 42 — Damage, Weight, Range and Verdict
Build 42 B-F Pistol stats: 1–1.6 damage, max range 17 tiles, weight 2, condition 10. The hardest-hitting magazine-fed sidearm of the pistol set.

The B-F weighs the same as a machete — which do I carry?
Is a 17-tile range usable?
The Trade in One Line
The B-F is the ceiling of what a handgun does in this worksheet: 1–1.6 damage out to a max of 17 tiles. It costs weight 2 — the same as a machete — and condition 10 like every other gun. Between the M9’s economy and the Magnum’s cylinder, this is the sidearm you pick when you want maximum handgun performance and still want to keep firing rather than keep reloading.
What the Numbers Mean in Play Cross-Verified
- Damage 1 – 1.6. The top of the pistol sheet. Enough that first-contact shots at close range actually drop things — the M9’s 0.6 – 1 start rarely does. Handguns still lose the damage war to the shotguns (1.5 – 2.2); the B-F wins by being carried at weight 2.
- Max range 17 tiles. Two tiles past the M9, five past the M1911. A ceiling, not an envelope — but in an open field those two tiles are the difference between killing at distance and starting to run.
- Weight 2. The honest trade: identical to the machete’s 2. You are paying tool weight for a machine that does the tool’s job from across a yard.
- Condition 10. Uniform gun-set durability. If the comparison is a carried katana, the B-F gives the same weight and more than doubles its damage ceiling. Wear is Maintenance-gated — skill leveling guide.
- Report. A full-power handgun report, loud enough to pre-arrange an unwanted audience; using guns around the high-risk POIs is a planning problem, not a marksmanship one.
- Feed. Magazine-fed with a capacity the cylinder revolvers cannot match — against the Magnum, which ties its damage at one more tile of reach and one identical weight, this is the whole argument.
When Not to Use It
- When the Magnum is the better answer. Same damage (1 – 1.6), same weight 2, one extra tile of max reach — if you fire once and relocate rather than cycling shots, take the revolver; see Magnum.
- When weight 2 is the whole pack’s problem. The M9 does the sidearm job at 1.5 — see M9 Pistol; the half-unit buys a lot but costs something when the bag is full.
- As a crowd-clearer. Even 1.6 ceilings load one zombie per shot; the shotgun’s 1.5 – 2.2 exists for the moment you need the whole first row.
How It Compares
| Handgun | Damage | Weight | Max range | Condition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| B-F Pistol | 1 – 1.6 | 2 | 17 | 10 |
| Magnum | 1 – 1.6 | 2 | 18 | 10 |
| M9 Pistol | 0.6 – 1 | 1.5 | 15 | 10 |
| M1911 Pistol | 0.9 – 1.2 | 1.5 | 12 | 10 |
The B-F and the Magnum are one weapon told two ways — identical damage and weight, one tile of reach apart — and the feed choice is the only thing the dual-sourced columns cannot arbitrate. Against the lighter pair the B-F simply wins, paying half a weight unit for the class’s best numbers. Where it ranks among all guns: weapon tier list.
Sources & Verification
Every printed figure on this page is agreed by two independent sources we can read today, matched by the in-game item ID Base.Pistol3:
| Source | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PZwiki — B-F Pistol | Semi-official wiki (declared an official site of The Indie Stone, volunteer-maintained) | Infobox fields read via its MediaWiki API |
| pzfans — Weapon item tables | Community data, stamped “Verified for Build 42.20.4” | Independent rendering of the same weight, damage and max-range fields |
What this is not. Neither source is our own measurement — nobody fired this gun in a test sandbox for this page. The noise value and the magazine capacity exist only on the PZwiki side (pzfans has no comparable column), so they are described qualitatively above and never printed as numbers. Spawn locations are omitted for the same one-source reason. PZwiki stamps most firearm pages against builds older than 42.21, so treat this as 42.20-era agreement rather than 42.21-verified, and expect a patch note to move these numbers eventually.
