FAQ

Is the Trapper the quietest gun?
Among long guns, on the single-source column we are allowed to describe qualitatively, yes — its report is rated the smallest of the rifle tier, and the M1911 sits in the same low band among handguns. It is still gunfire: quieter than an M16 is not silent like a knife. Exact noise figures are PZwiki-only and not printed here.
Trapper or L92?
The L92 carries the higher ceiling (1–1.6 against 1–1.4), four more tiles of max range (24) and a bigger feed, at 3.5 against 3.2. The Trapper's counter is its lighter frame and the smaller crack. If you are buying a carbine to fight with, the L92 wins the numbers; if you are buying one to answer contact without inviting the map, the Trapper is the one that fits the plan.
What is 20 tiles worth?
It is the shortest long-gun column on the sheet and still a handgun's-plus distance: past every sawed-off, past the shotguns' 12, past even the B-F's 17. It is the reach of 'the thing has not seen me yet', which for this gun's quieter report is the entire point. It is a ceiling — see the firearms guide for what actually connects.

The Trade in One Line

The Trapper Carbine sells the lowest-drama gunfire in the game: at weight 3.2 it is the lightest long gun on the worksheet, and its report is rated the smallest of the rifle class. The price is everything else — 1–1.4 damage is the second-weakest long-gun band and the 20-tile max is the shortest reach a stocked rifle offers. It exists for survivors who want a shot answered without the answer coming back multiplied.

What the Numbers Mean in Play Cross-Verified

  • Damage 1 – 1.4. Above the M9 and below the L94 tier: rifle floor, unimpressive ceiling. Enough to make 20 tiles of distance mean something, not enough to make the distance generous (firearms guide).
  • Max range 20 tiles. The shortest long-gun column — but every full-size shotgun sits behind it and every handgun except the B-F does. A ceiling rather than an envelope, same as the rest of the column.
  • Weight 3.2. The lightest stocked rifle by three-tenths — a genuine carry class of its own between the carbines’ 3.5 and the sawed-offs’ 3 (weapon tier list).
  • Condition 10. Every verified firearm shares it; the trapper’s smallness grants nothing. Wear is Maintenance-gated (skill leveling guide).
  • Report. The quietest crack among long guns on the single-sourced column — and quiet here means ‘a small town might absorb it’, not ‘the woods will forget it’. It is still gunfire: even so, outside the dense grids the high-risk POIs page warns about, this is the long gun whose shots you can most plausibly live with.
  • Feed. A small clip rather than a box magazine: the trapper asks for placement the way the L94 does, without the L94’s damage to back it up.

When Not to Use It

  • When you can carry the extra three-tenths. The L92 Carbine at 3.5 out-damages and out-ranges this gun with a bigger feed — the whole trade in one decimal.
  • When the shot must end it. Against the 1.2 – 2 tier’s punch (L94 Rifle), the trapper’s band is a warning, not a kill, at the bad end.
  • Where reach is the plan. The 40-tile rifles see things this gun cannot; if distance is why you are buying a rifle, buy the column, not the comfort (M1A Rifle).

How It Compares

Light long gun Damage Weight Max range Condition
Trapper Carbine 1 – 1.4 3.2 20 10
L92 Carbine 1 – 1.6 3.5 24 10
JS-14 Rifle 1 – 1.6 3.5 30 10
B-F Pistol (sidearm) 1 – 1.6 2 17 10

The ladder says the trapper is the class’s negotiated entry: it gives up the carbines’ numbers to be lighter and quieter, and the B-F row shows what that ‘quiet’ bargain really costs — the pistol actually matches its damage and comes within three tiles, at a full unit less weight. The trapper keeps the stock, the band’s top edge and one honest claim: the smallest rifle shot in the worksheet.

Sources & Verification

Every printed figure on this page is agreed by two independent sources we can read today, matched by the in-game item ID Base.TrapperCarbine:

Source Type Notes
PZwiki — Trapper Carbine Semi-official wiki (declared an official site of The Indie Stone, volunteer-maintained) Infobox fields read via its MediaWiki API
pzfans — Weapon item tables Community data, stamped “Verified for Build 42.20.4” Independent rendering of the same weight, damage and max-range fields

What this is not. Neither source is our own measurement — nobody fired this gun in a test sandbox for this page. The noise value and the clip capacity exist only on the PZwiki side (pzfans has no comparable column), so they are described qualitatively above and never printed as numbers. Spawn locations are omitted for the same one-source reason. PZwiki stamps most firearm pages against builds older than 42.21, so treat this as 42.20-era agreement rather than 42.21-verified, and expect a patch note to move these numbers eventually.
