M16 Assault Rifle in Build 42 — Damage, Weight, Range and Verdict
Build 42 M16 Assault Rifle stats: 1–1.6 damage, max range 30 tiles, weight 4, condition 10. The box-magazine rifle that doubles shotgun distance.
FAQ
Why does the M16 do less damage than a shotgun?
Is the JS-14 the better M16?
What does a 30-tile max range actually get you?
The Trade in One Line
The M16 sells the deepest magazine at rifle reach: 1–1.6 damage is pistol-band punch, but the 30-tile max doubles every shotgun’s working distance and the box feed lets you keep the fight going while the Patrol Revolver’s owner is still working a cylinder. Weight 4 and condition 10 are standard rifle-tier rent; the report is the loudest thing short of a shotgun blast.
What the Numbers Mean in Play Cross-Verified
- Damage 1 – 1.6. Equal to the B-F and the Magnum — the assault tier does not buy power, it buys delivery. Against the top-tier rifles’ 1.2 – 2 the M16 is the weaker shooter (M1A Rifle).
- Max range 30 tiles. The middle rung of the long sheet: double any shotgun, 10 short of the 40-tier — and a ceiling, not an envelope (firearms guide). At 30 you decide when a fight starts; that is the actual product.
- Weight 4. Shotgun-tier carry; like the MSR700 and every full-size pump. A rifle is not a spare — it is your main arm or it is loot.
- Condition 10. Uniform across all 20 verified firearms — the long barrel changes nothing. Wear is Maintenance-gated (skill leveling guide).
- Report. A rifle’s crack carries a long way — firing an M16 to clear a route through Louisville is scheduling a second, larger fight for after the first. The high-risk POIs page exists precisely because of this.
- Feed. The largest magazine in the worksheet — sustained, box-fed fire the cylinders and bolt-guns cannot answer, which is the M16’s entire reason to exist alongside the lighter JS-14.
When Not to Use It
- When weight 4 buys too little punch. If your fights are 12 tiles and front-door shaped, the Shotgun’s 1.5 – 2.2 does more per trigger at the same weight.
- When the JS-14 is on the rack. Same damage, same reach, half a unit lighter — take the M16 only when the deeper feed is the point.
- When one clean shot ends it. 1 – 1.6 with a loud report is the worst combination for a quiet pick at range; that is the Trapper Carbine’s narrower job.
How It Compares
| Long gun | Damage | Weight | Max range | Condition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M16 Assault Rifle | 1 – 1.6 | 4 | 30 | 10 |
| JS-14 Rifle | 1 – 1.6 | 3.5 | 30 | 10 |
| L94 Rifle | 1.2 – 2 | 3.5 | 30 | 10 |
| M1A Rifle | 1.2 – 2 | 4.5 | 40 | 10 |
The assault tier’s ladder in four rows: the M16 owns volume, the JS-14 owns weight, the L94 owns punch-per-kilo, and the M1A owns reach — every rung charges something for it. Against the shotgun family the whole column above is a different war, fought before anything reaches twelve tiles. Full ranking: weapon tier list.
Sources & Verification
Every printed figure on this page is agreed by two independent sources we can read today, matched by the in-game item ID Base.AssaultRifle:
| Source | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PZwiki — M16 Assault Rifle | Semi-official wiki (declared an official site of The Indie Stone, volunteer-maintained) | Infobox fields read via its MediaWiki API |
| pzfans — Weapon item tables | Community data, stamped “Verified for Build 42.20.4” | Independent rendering of the same weight, damage and max-range fields |
What this is not. Neither source is our own measurement — nobody fired this gun in a test sandbox for this page. The noise value and the magazine capacity exist only on the PZwiki side (pzfans has no comparable column), so they are described qualitatively above and never printed as numbers. Spawn locations are omitted for the same one-source reason. PZwiki stamps most firearm pages against builds older than 42.21, so treat this as 42.20-era agreement rather than 42.21-verified, and expect a patch note to move these numbers eventually.
