The Trade in One Line
The MSR788 is the whole worksheet in one honest corner: top-band damage (1.2–2), maximum reach (40 tiles), and the lightest weight either of those numbers has ever cost — 4, condition 10. Everything the rifle tier can say about power and distance, this gun says at the 30-tier’s grams. Its price is printed in a column only one source keeps: a slim feed that hands the fight back to your aim.
What the Numbers Mean in Play Cross-Verified
- Damage 1.2 – 2. The rifle ceiling, tied with the M1A, the MSR7T and the L94 — only the shotgun family’s 2.2 tops it, and only from within twelve tiles.
- Max range 40 tiles. The longest column on the worksheet: the 30-tier plus ten, more than three times the pump shotgun’s reach — and a ceiling, not a promise (firearms guide). Open country at Louisville’s edges belongs to whoever holds this rung first.
- Weight 4. The same as the full-size shotguns and the MSR700 — the achievement is that it is 4 with the sheet’s best combat pair attached; the club that matches the numbers pays 4.5 (weapon tier list).
- Condition 10. Set-wide and unsentimental. Wear is Maintenance-gated (skill leveling guide).
- Report. A heavy, far-carrying crack — hunting-rifle loud: a shot across the treeline is a statement the whole grid hears, and town sweeps with this gun are sieges by definition.
- Feed. The slim magazine of the hunting class: few shots between reloads at the very top of the reach column, which makes the MSR788 the worksheet’s purest marksman’s trade — everything the numbers offer, everything the trigger asks back.
When Not to Use It
- When the shots will not be placed. Small feed plus maximum range is a discipline requirement; volume problems want the M16 or the M1A’s middle ground.
- When twelve tiles is where it happens. Inside the fence, the shotgun’s 1.5 – 2.2 ends doors that this gun must reload to address.
- When half a unit is free anyway. If you value the box feed over the grams, the M1A carries identical combat numbers — take M1A Rifle and never think about the column again.
How It Compares
| Top-band rifle | Damage | Weight | Max range | Condition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MSR788 Rifle | 1.2 – 2 | 4 | 40 | 10 |
| M1A Rifle | 1.2 – 2 | 4.5 | 40 | 10 |
| MSR7T Tactical Rifle | 1.2 – 2 | 4.5 | 40 | 10 |
| L94 Rifle | 1.2 – 2 | 3.5 | 30 | 10 |
The 1.2 – 2 / 40 club has one cheap seat and the MSR788 is sitting in it: the same damage and reach the tactical entries charge 4.5 for, at 4, and the ticket stub is the feed. The L94 row shows the other direction — same band, ten fewer tiles, three-tenths of a unit back. Every rifle decision in the worksheet reduces to which of these three columns you refuse to pay.
Sources & Verification
Every printed figure on this page is agreed by two independent sources we can read today, matched by the in-game item ID Base.HuntingRifle:
| Source | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PZwiki — MSR788 Rifle | Semi-official wiki (declared an official site of The Indie Stone, volunteer-maintained) | Infobox fields read via its MediaWiki API |
| pzfans — Weapon item tables | Community data, stamped “Verified for Build 42.20.4” | Independent rendering of the same weight, damage and max-range fields |
What this is not. Neither source is our own measurement — nobody fired this gun in a test sandbox for this page. The noise value and the magazine capacity exist only on the PZwiki side (pzfans has no comparable column), so they are described qualitatively above and never printed as numbers. Spawn locations are omitted for the same one-source reason. PZwiki stamps most firearm pages against builds older than 42.21, so treat this as 42.20-era agreement rather than 42.21-verified, and expect a patch note to move these numbers eventually.
