Rolling Pin in Build 42 — The Weakest Blunt Weapon That Still Shoves

Build 42 rolling pin stats: 0.2–0.5 damage, weight 1.5, condition 8, knockback 0.5, 15% crit. Real 0.5 knockback on the lowest blunt damage we list.

FAQ

Is the rolling pin worse than the frying pan?
On the sourced numbers, yes, in the same kitchen class. The [frying pan](/items/frying-pan/) weighs the same 1.5 and knocks back the same 0.5, but out-damages it (0.3–0.5 floor against 0.2), out-crits it (30% against 15%) and outlasts it (condition 10 against 8). The rolling pin has no column where it wins.
What is the rolling pin good for at all?
The single stat worth naming: 0.5 knockback, the stagger tier with the [baseball bat](/items/baseball-bat/) and [crowbar](/items/crowbar/), far above the 0.01 blades. If you only have a rolling pin and a zombie is close, the push buys you a step back — but nothing else about the fight.
Does condition 8 matter much?
It is below the blunt group's usual 10–15, so the pin wears faster than a pan or wrench while dealing less per hit. Maintenance slows the drain, but on a 0.2-damage floor a panic-clamped swing can land near nothing — see the [skill leveling guide](/guides/skill-leveling/) and [mood and panic](/guides/mood-and-panic/).

The Trade in One Line

The rolling pin is a shove attached to the weakest damage in the game: knockback 0.5 is genuinely useful, but 0.2–0.5 damage, 15% crit and condition 8 mean it does the least work per swing of any blunt weapon we can source.

What the Numbers Mean in Play Cross-Verified

  • Damage 0.2 – 0.5. The blunt group’s floor; only the letter opener’s flat 0.1 and the knife tier are lower. Two-plus swings, always.
  • Knockback 0.5. The lone redeeming column — real stagger, matching the bat and crowbar.
  • Condition 8. Below the pan’s 10 and the bat’s 15; closer to the fragile blades. Drain is Maintenance-gated — skill leveling guide.
  • Weight 1.5. Same as the pan and the light tools — it never costs you a slot.
  • Crit 15%. The low tier, matched by the meat cleaver and bread knife; on a 0.2 base it is a rounding error.

When Not to Use It

  • When the pan is in the drawer. The frying pan is the same weight and knockback with more damage, double the crit and two more condition — a straight upgrade.
  • When you need damage, not distance. 0.2–0.5 does not kill quickly; the bat at 0.8–1.1 with 15 condition ends the same fight in fewer, tougher swings.
  • Under stress. A 0.2 floor is the value the tier list’s flat panic penalties erase first; a low-number weapon is the worst kind to hold in a bad moment. Read mood and panic.

How It Compares

Weapon Damage Weight Condition Knockback Crit
Rolling Pin 0.2 – 0.5 1.5 8 0.5 15%
Frying Pan 0.3 – 0.5 1.5 10 0.5 30%
Pipe Wrench 0.5 – 1 1.5 10 0.3 25%
Baseball Bat 0.8 – 1.1 2 15 0.5 40%

Every neighbor beats it: same weight, the pan dominates on three columns; the pipe wrench trades a little knockback for much better damage and durability; the bat wins outright. The rolling pin’s only claim is that it is free to find — which the weapon tier list accounts for, but does not forgive.

Sources & Verification

Every figure on this page is agreed by two independent sources we can read today, matched by the in-game item ID Base.RollingPin:

Source Type Notes
PZwiki — Rolling Pin Semi-official wiki (declared an official site of The Indie Stone, volunteer-maintained) Infobox fields read via its MediaWiki API
pzfans — Weapon item tables Community data, stamped “Verified for Build 42.20.4” Independent rendering of the same fields

What this is not. Neither source is our own measurement, and PZwiki stamps most item pages against an older 42.10-era build while flagging that they may lag the current release. Treat these as 42.20-era agreement rather than 42.21-verified, and expect a patch note to change them eventually. Spawn locations are deliberately absent from this page: we could not source them twice, so we do not print them.
