FAQ

Is the Patrol Revolver better than the M1911?
On the dual-sourced numbers, yes: same weight 1.5, same 12-tile max range, and more damage across the whole band (0.95–1.4 against 0.9–1.2). The M1911 keeps only the magazine's faster rhythm between shots. Weigh that against your reload habits — the M1911 page lays out both sides.
Why not just carry the Magnum?
Damage and reach say yes: the Magnum runs 1–1.6 out to 18 tiles. It costs weight 2 against this gun's 1.5 — half a unit is nothing once, and something on a long trek. The Patrol is the revolver you keep at 1.5 without apology.
What is the SN38 then?
The pocket option — weight 1.2 — but its 0.5–0.8 damage and 8-tile max range are the weakest gun numbers in the whole worksheet. Unless every gram counts, the Patrol is simply the better purchase; the SN38 revolver page shows why.

The Trade in One Line

The Patrol Revolver is the class’s value pick: 0.95–1.4 damage at weight 1.5, which ties the best numbers the light handgun slot has while beating every magazine pistol at the same weight on damage. Its 12-tile max range is the trade — the M9 reaches 15 from the same half of your belt — and the cylinder is a deliberate rhythm choice.

What the Numbers Mean in Play Cross-Verified

  • Damage 0.95 – 1.4. Starts near where the M1911 ends and clears most single zombies well before its ceiling. Only the B-F and the Magnum hit harder among handguns, both at weight 2.
  • Max range 12 tiles. The short end of the pistol sheet — a ceiling, not an effective distance (firearms guide). Crossing an open field you will want the M9’s 15; on town streets 12 is enough.
  • Weight 1.5. The lightest workhorse class — tied with the M9 and M1911, half a unit under the heavy pair, a full unit under anything with a stock.
  • Condition 10. Same as every gun in the set; nothing about a revolver makes it last. Maintenance gates wear — skill leveling guide.
  • Report. A sharp, full-power crack that pulls company; a revolver you can fire in Louisville is not a revolver you should fire there unless the fight is already chosen.
  • Feed. A cylinder — fewer moving parts between shots, and no magazine to spare. The reload rhythm is the honest cost against the magazine pistols.

When Not to Use It

  • When reach decides. The M9 does 15 tiles at the same weight; if your fights start across a yard, take M9 Pistol.
  • When you can pay the half unit. The Magnum (1 – 1.6, 18 tiles, weight 2) is the strictly bigger gun — take the Patrol only when the grams matter more than the last tile.
  • Against the sheet’s real ceiling. No revolver touches the shotgun’s 1.5 – 2.2 for group-stopping; if that is the job, the gun you want is not a handgun.

How It Compares

Revolver Damage Weight Max range Condition
Patrol Revolver 0.95 – 1.4 1.5 12 10
Magnum 1 – 1.6 2 18 10
SN38 Revolver 0.5 – 0.8 1.2 8 10

The three cylinders form a clean price ladder: each step up buys real damage and real reach for exactly the weight it charges. The Patrol is the rung where the curve stops being a compromise — the SN38’s savings are too small and its numbers too weak, the Magnum’s edge over the Patrol is one point of ceiling and six tiles for a half unit. Sources & Verification

Every printed figure on this page is agreed by two independent sources we can read today, matched by the in-game item ID Base.Revolver:

Source Type Notes
PZwiki — Patrol Revolver Semi-official wiki (declared an official site of The Indie Stone, volunteer-maintained) Infobox fields read via its MediaWiki API
pzfans — Weapon item tables Community data, stamped “Verified for Build 42.20.4” Independent rendering of the same weight, damage and max-range fields

What this is not. Neither source is our own measurement — nobody fired this gun in a test sandbox for this page. The noise value and the cylinder capacity exist only on the PZwiki side (pzfans has no comparable column), so they are described qualitatively above and never printed as numbers. Spawn locations are omitted for the same one-source reason. PZwiki stamps most firearm pages against builds older than 42.21, so treat this as 42.20-era agreement rather than 42.21-verified, and expect a patch note to move these numbers eventually.
