Hand Fork in Build 42 — Same Numbers as the Trowel, Without the Push

Build 42 hand fork stats: 0.2–0.4 damage, weight 1, condition 6, knockback 0.01, 10% crit. The trowel's body with none of its stagger — the weaker twin by design.

FAQ

Hand fork or gardening trowel?
The trowel, on the two stats that decide a weak weapon. Both share 0.2–0.4 damage, weight 1 and condition 6, but the [gardening trowel](/items/gardening-trowel/) knocks back 0.3 and crits 30%, while the hand fork is 0.01 and 10%. The fork has the trowel's body without its ability to interrupt anything.
Does the hand fork have any weapon merit?
Essentially none. A 0.2–0.4 damage band is table-floor, 0.01 knockback is the cutlery's non-answer, and 10% crit is the lowest tier alongside the [scalpel](/items/scalpel/) and [paring knife](/items/paring-knife/). Its only defensible quality is weight 1 — you barely notice carrying it, which is a reason to leave it behind, not to pick it up.
It is a planting tool — is that the point?
That is likely why it exists, and why this page prints only its combat row. We do not document its gardening uses here because we could not source them twice; judged as a weapon the hand fork is outclassed by any kitchen knife and by its own trowel twin.

The Trade in One Line

The hand fork is the twin that lost the good stats: identical 0.2–0.4 damage, weight 1 and condition 6 to the trowel, but knockback 0.01 and 10% crit where the trowel has 0.3 and 30%. Everything the trowel does as a fallback weapon, the fork simply does not.

What the Numbers Mean in Play Cross-Verified

  • Damage 0.2 – 0.4. Floor band, matching the trowel and the rolling pin’s bottom; many swings per kill.
  • Knockback 0.01. The deal-breaker against the trowel: none, cutlery-grade. A hit interrupts nothing — see the trowel’s 0.3 for what the same body could have had.
  • Crit 10%. Low tier, with the scalpel, paring and fillet knives; only the 5% letter opener and fishing rod sit under it.
  • Weight 1. Carries free — the same as the trowel and the meat cleaver.
  • Condition 6. Fragile tier, one above the steak/fillet knives’ 5. Drain is Maintenance-gated, but the cap is the wall — skill leveling guide.

When Not to Use It

  • When the trowel is on the ground. Same footprint, strictly better combat columns — there is no sourced reason to choose the fork over its twin.
  • When any knife is available. Even the kitchen knife (0.3–0.7) out-damages it; the hunting knife out-damages and out-crits it outright.
  • In any planned fight. 0.01 knockback and 6 condition describe an accident weapon, ranked by that logic in the weapon tier list.

How It Compares

Weapon Damage Weight Condition Knockback Crit
Hand Fork 0.2 – 0.4 1 6 0.01 10%
Gardening Trowel 0.2 – 0.4 1 6 0.3 30%
Scalpel 0.1 – 0.4 0.3 5 0.01 10%
Kitchen Knife 0.3 – 0.7 0.7 10 0.01 25%

Two comparisons finish it. Against the trowel the fork loses the only two stats worth having; against the scalpel it is heavier (1 against 0.3) for almost the same numbers. The kitchen knife then beats it on damage, crit, condition and weight in one row. The hand fork’s honest place is the very bottom of the weapon tier list’s fallback column.

Sources & Verification

Every figure on this page is agreed by two independent sources we can read today, matched by the in-game item ID Base.HandFork:

Source Type Notes
PZwiki — Hand Fork Semi-official wiki (declared an official site of The Indie Stone, volunteer-maintained) Infobox fields read via its MediaWiki API
pzfans — Weapon item tables Community data, stamped “Verified for Build 42.20.4” Independent rendering of the same fields

What this is not. Neither source is our own measurement, and PZwiki stamps most item pages against an older 42.10-era build while flagging that they may lag the current release. Treat these as 42.20-era agreement rather than 42.21-verified, and expect a patch note to change them eventually. Spawn locations are deliberately absent from this page: we could not source them twice, so we do not print them.
