Golf Club in Build 42 — Better Knockback Than the Bat, on a Condition-5 Fuse

Build 42 golf club stats: 0.5–1 damage, weight 2, condition 5, knockback 0.6, 25% crit. It out-shoves the bat and crowbar — then breaks a third as fast.

FAQ

Is the golf club better than the baseball bat?
On two columns, yes; on the one that matters most, no. The [baseball bat](/items/baseball-bat/) hits 0.8–1.1 and lasts 15 condition; the club hits 0.5–1 and lasts 5. But the club knocks back 0.6 against the bat's 0.5, so it staggers harder per hit. The bat wins any fight measured in swings; the club wins only the swing it lands before breaking.
What is the highest knockback on a light weapon?
The golf club's 0.6 — above the bat, [crowbar](/items/crowbar/) and shovel at 0.5, and second only to the [sledgehammer](/items/sledgehammer/)'s 1.0 anywhere in the table. It is the reason a condition-5 weapon still earns a mention.
Why does condition 5 ruin it?
A 0.5–1 weapon needs multiple swings per zombie, and swings are what spend condition. Five is the fragile tier shared with the [bread](/items/bread-knife/) and [steak knives](/items/steak-knife/) — on a blunt weapon you expect to swing a lot, that is a one-or-two-fight tool no matter how hard each hit pushes.

The Trade in One Line

The golf club is the high-knockback, low-fuse blunt weapon: 0.6 push — the best of any light weapon here — on a 0.5–1 band at weight 2, all of it mounted on condition 5. It turns a zombie around better than the bat does, for about a third of the fights.

What the Numbers Mean in Play Cross-Verified

  • Damage 0.5 – 1. Below the bat’s 0.8 floor at the low end; the 1 ceiling ties the pipe wrench and claw hammer. Two swings, usually.
  • Knockback 0.6. Its headline: above the bat and crowbar at 0.5 and the whole 0.01 blade family. Only the sledgehammer’s 1.0 is more.
  • Condition 5. The disqualifier. The blunt group’s normal is 10–15; the club is fragile-tier with the cutlery. Maintenance slows drain, not the cap — skill leveling guide.
  • Weight 2. Normal blunt cost — same as the bat and crowbar, no reason it stays in the pack the way a weight-6 sledgehammer does not.
  • Crit 25%. Middle of the table; the bat doubles it at 40%, the hunting knife at 50%.

When Not to Use It

  • On a long run. Condition 5 is the honest reason this is a found weapon, not a kept one — the bat’s 15 and the crowbar’s 15 are the durable picks.
  • When you can hold the sledgehammer. For raw knockback the sledgehammer throws 1.0 and does 2–3 damage; the club’s 0.6 is the consolation when the heavy weapon is not in your hand.
  • Deep into a crowd. A push that strong on a fuse that short means the club wins your first scatter and then leaves you unarmed.

How It Compares

Weapon Damage Weight Condition Knockback Crit
Golf Club 0.5 – 1 2 5 0.6 25%
Baseball Bat 0.8 – 1.1 2 15 0.5 40%
Crowbar 0.6 – 1.15 2 15 0.5 20%
Sledgehammer 2 – 3 6 10 1.0 20%

Read the club against the bat: one extra tenth of knockback for ten less condition and a lower damage band. That is the whole product — a burst of crowd control bought in near-forgivable durability. The sledgehammer is what the club wishes it could be when the fight is long. The weapon tier list ranks by exactly this durability test.

Sources & Verification

Every figure on this page is agreed by two independent sources we can read today, matched by the in-game item ID Base.Golfclub:

Source Type Notes
PZwiki — Golf Club Semi-official wiki (declared an official site of The Indie Stone, volunteer-maintained) Infobox fields read via its MediaWiki API
pzfans — Weapon item tables Community data, stamped “Verified for Build 42.20.4” Independent rendering of the same fields

What this is not. Neither source is our own measurement, and PZwiki stamps most item pages against an older 42.10-era build while flagging that they may lag the current release. Treat these as 42.20-era agreement rather than 42.21-verified, and expect a patch note to change them eventually. Spawn locations are deliberately absent from this page: we could not source them twice, so we do not print them.
