Frying Pan in Build 42 — A Real Knockback Weapon Hidden in the Kitchen
Build 42 frying pan stats: 0.3–0.5 damage, weight 1.5, condition 10, knockback 0.5, 30% crit. Low damage, but real 0.5 knockback makes it a crowd tool.

It cooks too — does that change the verdict?
The Trade in One Line
The frying pan is stagger you can eat with: 0.5 knockback and a 30% crit — both at or above the common blunt weapons — mounted on a low 0.3–0.5 damage band at weight 1.5. It will not one-shot anything, but it reliably buys you the space between swings.
What the Numbers Mean in Play Cross-Verified
- Damage 0.3 – 0.5. The blunt group’s floor, knife-adjacent — the kitchen knife’s ceiling (0.7) clears it, and the bat’s 0.8 floor already sits above this band.
- Knockback 0.5. Its claim to be a weapon at all: same push as the bat and crowbar, well clear of the 0.01 blade family. Half the sledgehammer’s 1.0.
- Crit 30%. Above the crowbar’s 20% and the kitchen knife’s 25%, below the bat’s 40%. On the blunt group’s lowest damage band, that is unusually good luck per swing.
- Weight 1.5. Under the bat and crowbar’s 2; a kitchen item that never taxes the pack.
- Condition 10. Middle tier — above the fragile golf club’s 5, under the bat and crowbar’s 15. Maintenance drains it, skill leveling guide.
When Not to Use It
- When kills must be quick. 0.3–0.5 is a control band, not a damage band; the machete at 2–3 ends what the pan keeps shoving back.
- When you want the stagger AND the durability. The bat matches 0.5 knockback with 15 condition and higher damage; the pan loses on both there.
- When a blade is on hand and you only need a sidearm. At low damage the pan and the knives occupy the same job; the pan’s edge is knockback, which the meat cleaver at 0.3 partially offers.
How It Compares
| Weapon | Damage | Weight | Condition | Knockback | Crit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frying Pan | 0.3 – 0.5 | 1.5 | 10 | 0.5 | 30% |
| Rolling Pin | 0.2 – 0.5 | 1.5 | 8 | 0.5 | 15% |
| Baseball Bat | 0.8 – 1.1 | 2 | 15 | 0.5 | 40% |
| Crowbar | 0.6 – 1.15 | 2 | 15 | 0.5 | 20% |
The pan’s row is the budget version of the bat: identical 0.5 knockback, half a weight lighter, but a full tier below on damage and five condition short. It proves the point the weapon tier list keeps returning to — among low-damage weapons, knockback and crit are what make a swing worth taking, and the pan has both more than its numbers advertise.
Sources & Verification
Every figure on this page is agreed by two independent sources we can read today, matched by the in-game item ID Base.Pan:
| Source | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PZwiki — Frying Pan | Semi-official wiki (declared an official site of The Indie Stone, volunteer-maintained) | Infobox fields read via its MediaWiki API |
| pzfans — Weapon item tables | Community data, stamped “Verified for Build 42.20.4” | Independent rendering of the same fields |
What this is not. Neither source is our own measurement, and PZwiki stamps most item pages against an older 42.10-era build while flagging that they may lag the current release. Treat these as 42.20-era agreement rather than 42.21-verified, and expect a patch note to change them eventually. Spawn locations are deliberately absent from this page: we could not source them twice, so we do not print them.
